The Past in The Present
With only two weeks left in our series on Joseph we heard the story of Joseph's brothers coming to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph. For years Joseph's brothers have not had to deal with what they did to Joseph, but now the past comes into the present. Throughout the course of multiple interactions the guilt, shame and remorse of what the brothers did to Joseph shows, but so does their growth and transformation. The brothers aren't the same as they were when they sold Joseph. They have grown into more loving and sacrificial people as they show by trying to save their youngest brother, Benjamin's, life. Joseph sees all of this and eventually reveals himself to his brothers. Joseph doesn't act in retribution or anger towards his brothers, but in grace and shares how God worked everything out for His good.
Pastor Geoff encouraged us to deal with the conviction of any unchecked sin in our lives by confessing it to God and repenting. He then asked us to allow that repentance to transform us into a greater likeness of Jesus by sacrificing for those around us. Then finally, Pastor Geoff asked us, to look back and see how God has taken us from where we were to where we are now, and how He has worked everything out for His good and the good of those who follow Him.
