Jesus and Pilate
After Jesus' trial before the Sanhedrin, He was taken the Roman official Pilate to decide on His punishment. Pilate could have set Jesus free, but he put Jesus, and a criminal named Barabbas, in front of a crowd to see which one he should set free. To his surprise the crowd chose Barabbas because they were influenced by the High Priests. This whole story was filled with pressure from a variety of places. Pilate was under pressure from Rome and the people in Jerusalem, the High Priests were under pressure to keep control and influence, and the people were under pressure to join the crowd and choose Barabbas. We will be under pressure from a variety of places in our own lives and Pastor Geoff encouraged us to push our pressure to Jesus and not push the pressure inside of ourselves.
